Joni Reikenmeier, an American, and her husband, Chris Skine, were shocked. Joni learned at 19 weeks of pregnancy that her baby was at risk of impairment owing to a significant spinal abnormality. Future parents had two alternatives for the course of events: leave everything as is, or agree to a hazardous operation for their child.

They chose the second option, and it resulted in unanticipated repercussions! Doctors had to remove the baby from the woman’s womb, remove a hernia, drain excess fluid from the brain and spinal cord, and then correct the spine deformity.
Following these events, the 19-week-old infant needed to be returned to the womb. The biggest concern was that a woman had an 80% chance of having a preterm birth. Furthermore, surgeons had not previously conducted similar procedures in their clinic, therefore they lacked experience. Despite the hazards, the operation went ahead.

There were 32 specialists in the operation room! The baby, weighing only 500 grams, had all abnormalities removed and returned to the womb. Soon later, the expecting mother began to have contractions, which were effectively stopped by the doctors. The infant “took root” again in the womb and continued to grow. The baby was delivered for the second time via Caesarean section.
The birth took place 10 weeks after a complicated operation. His mother, Joni, was obliged to lie in only one position the entire time: on her back. But for the sake of her cherished kid, Joni was willing to go through even more. The newborn boy was given the lovely name Jackson. The baby was extremely weak for the first two weeks and spent time in the intensive care unit.

However, everything reverted to normal: the boy became stronger, gained weight, and was discharged from the clinic. He is all right now! Jackson’s parents plan to celebrate the baby’s birthday twice a year. “Jackson will receive two delicious birthday cakes, because he deserved it!” rejoices Joni.
