A 14-year-old AGT singer’s heartfelt cover of You Don’t Own Me received a rare Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandel. Reid Wilson debuted on America’s Got Talent’s July 9th episode and gave a little background before taking the stage. The teen said in an interview that he has always enjoyed singing. When he was younger, he’d “run around the house screaming at the top of [his] lungs.”
Reid’s skills improved as he grew older. As the middle kid among four siblings, he did not want to “be forgotten.” So he drew attention to himself by singing for his parents and siblings. Until he stepped in front of the AGT judges, he’d only performed at family gatherings. “I would love to be, like, the next superstar,” he remarked with a dreamy smile. “… I am definitely nervous. But I’m going to give it my best for those two minutes, just singing my heart out and trying not to miss a note.”

That was exactly what Reid Wilson did. He sang his heart out and struck every note on Lesley Gore’s 1963 song. Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel were all attracted by his distinct and powerful voice. As Reid blasted his audition, Howie sat back and folded his hands over his chest, smiling as he took in each lyric. Simon was so affected that he closed his eyes to get the full effect.
“You know, I shut my eyes for a moment when you were singing just to listen to your voice, and then I opened them again, and there’s this sweet, young kid,” Simon told me. “Do You Believe In Dreams?” Howie let the other judges share their accolades before speaking, and Reid eventually received the Golden Buzzer. “I was bullied because I was astonished.First and foremost, you are only 14 years old and from Alabama.
So, putting myself in your shoes, I’d suppose you were really nervous, and you did come across as extremely nervous. “That was surprising,” he remarked. “And you know what? “That stage is where dreams become reality.” “Do you believe in dreams?” Howie inquired before Reid responded, “Yes.” “Well, one of them is about to come true,” Howie exclaimed, slamming the Golden Buzzer.
