Do you ever get the impression that an unfortunate percentage of society is willing to criticize and disparage others in order to make themselves feel better? It’s a damning accusation, but it doesn’t mean it’s not true. If you ask me, there are far too many people in the world who are willing to speak and write destructive things when there is no fear of repercussions or judgment.
If anything, the internet has created an excellent breeding environment for such folks. They can type whatever they want and rarely suffer consequences.Celebrities understand this all too well. While living a life of fame and riches may appear enticing to the people, there are several drawbacks to consider, not the least of which is that you will nearly always have to deal with outspoken critics.
Perhaps celebrities develop thick skins over time, realizing that petty comments and the opinions of strangers don’t really matter all that much. Nonetheless, I believe that many people should reconsider one of the age-old adages: if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. If you haven’t noticed, I’m really passionate about this issue, and my feelings were piqued earlier this week when I saw individuals criticizing tennis sensation Serena Williams online.
Serena Williams is unquestionably a sporting legend, and fans have witnessed her and her sister Venus’ meteoric climb from teenage prodigies to tennis royalty. Serena is 42 years old and has spent the most of her life in the spotlight, so her appearance has naturally altered and changed as she has aged. In actuality, she’s worn a variety of styles over the years, including beaded braids, red-tinted weaves, and beautiful jewelry. It has not always been easy for the Michigan native superstar. Far from it. Serna told The View in 2018 that “I’ve been body-shamed basically since I’ve been in the public eye.”
Serena has retired from the court, but she remains an interesting figure – becoming a sport-transcending legend will do that. Her attention was first piqued when she began a weight-loss program after expecting her second kid in 2023. Serena announced last month that she was working feverishly to go back to her pre-baby shape. “I’m still getting there, I still have a little more baby weight to come off,” she remarked.
However, while the 42-year-old continues to work out, some people online are more concerned about a supposed change in her face look.Serena teamed up with Vogue in March to give fans a behind-the-scenes peek at her preparations for the Balmain fashion show. Following the release of the film, some people couldn’t help but criticize Serena’s appearance.
“I really like this woman but…please say when and stop with the Botox, fillers, or whatever is destroying your wonderful look!” Please!” one user posted on Instagram. “Lip fillers are definitely needless. “Where are her closest friends?” Another wrote. A third asked, “What did Serena do to her face? It looks swollen.” “I love her, but what’s going on with her face? Her brows, lips, and veneers… What are the plastic surgeons doing? People appear to be becoming terrifying.” I wrote a fourth. Another still added: “I want Serena to remove the filters from her face and return to her natural appearance!! “This Fiona look does not sit well with me…”
