Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in Colombia this week on a cultural trip, and it appears that the royal family is mulling over their most recent charity visit. The Sussexes’ recent visits have apparently irritated the palace, and there could be ramifications for their royal titles.
The Express reported that a “royal family summit” will be convened at Balmoral during the customary summer holiday. “The Royal Family are meeting at Balmoral to discuss a number of different things, but one of them will be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” a palace employee revealed. “People don’t grasp that the Balmoral gathering is more than just a summer vacation.

The family also attends pre-arranged sessions to discuss the family’s current situation and how they may best plan for the future.Since last year was the first summer without Queen Elizabeth II, the royal family had the opportunity to reflect on her legacy. This year, they’re apparently considering “how the family can best move forward without the Sussexes.”
Their involvement in the Invictus Games, as well as invites from heads of state, appear to be a source of contention for King Charles II and Prince William. “Not only will Harry and Meghan’s tours and upcoming trip to Canada be on the agenda, but also their titles and peerages will be up for discussion,” the authors said. This hot topic of discussion has been ongoing since Harry and Meghan left the royal family in 2020.
Tom Quinn, the author of Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle, told The Mirror in May that “Charles and William have had lengthy discussions about stripping Meghan and Harry of their royal titles.” He doubts any royal will go through with it because of the public relations nightmare it would undoubtedly produce.

“They are terrified this would backfire and make the situation worse,” she said. “They don’t want to give the renegade royals something else to complain about. William and his father understand that even without their royal titles, Meghan and Harry will continue to travel the world as if they were royals, and the majority of the world will welcome them.”
It is true that Harry’s Invictus Games have been a huge success, with a wonderful reception from all across the world. Countries are courting the Sussexes to bring the sports event to their area, and whether or not they have a royal title will not discourage them. However, as long as the familial rivalry simmers, the debate over royal titles will persist.
