A woman recently shared her experience on Reddit, expressing how her once strong bond with her partner of five years started to deteriorate after he baselessly accused her of cheating.
In her narrative, she pondered the perplexing betrayal of someone she had spent five years with, and recently married, who had managed to tarnish her reputation over a mere scent resembling a cologne in their shared apartment. The chain of events unfolded when her husband received a request to temporarily reside with his mother. She had unfortunately suffered a broken hip due to an unfortunate incident where her husband accidentally bumped into her with the car while reversing in the driveway.
The woman was occupied with her work, so she chose to remain at home while her husband visited his parents. Upon his return, he inquired about the lingering scent of cologne in the apartment, particularly in the bedroom, to the woman. According to her, she had no clue and didn’t delve into the matter any further as she was running late for work. Later that day, when she arrived home from work, she was surprised to find that the locks had been changed, preventing her from entering the house.
Feeling lost and unsure, she sought solace at her mom’s house, where she found comfort for the following days. Her husband refused to answer his phone, but his mother did reach out to her, making a series of accusations and demanding that she return the $18K wedding ring. Furthermore, her husband and mother-in-law went around spreading rumors within the family, accusing the woman of infidelity and even threatening to initiate the annulment process.
As news of her actions spread, the woman’s phone was constantly buzzing with messages and calls from everyone close to her.Heartbroken, she made desperate attempts to contact her husband, but he only replied to her text messages and refused to engage in conversation. After some time, she finally discovered the source of that peculiar scent.
Sharing her experience on Reddit, she described how her husband strongly dislikes fish, especially the smell. Taking advantage of his absence, she decided to indulge in some fish for herself. To combat the lingering odor, she came up with a clever solution. She strategically placed scented wipes on the back of the fan in her bedroom, which is usually running throughout the day. As she grew accustomed to the scent, little did she expect her husband to mistake the fragrance of the wipes for cologne.
After realizing her mistake, she quickly reached out to her husband, requesting him to check the bathroom trashcan for the packages and the back of the fan for the wipes. The very next day, he found himself standing at her mother’s doorstep, desperately pleading for her forgiveness. In his mind, he justified his suspicions of her infidelity with the excuse that he believed he wasn’t worthy of someone as amazing as her. However, this feeble attempt at consolation did little to ease his troubled thoughts.
