BYU Vocal Point, known for their a cappella talent, revives Josh Groban’s 2003 hit “You Raise Me Up.” This rendition highlights the group’s remarkable vocal abilities, taking the song’s inspiring lyrics to new heights. BYU Vocal Point was founded in 1991 by undergraduates Dave Boyce and Bob Ahlander and immediately became popular on campus, culminating in a sold-out inaugural show.
They’ve received various honors throughout the years and signed a record deal with Decca Gold in December of 2018. Member Jason Bromley describes their journey: “We’re ordinary college students doing extraordinary things.” BYU Vocal Point’s music video, set against a stunning mountain setting, begins with a single voice before evolving into a tapestry of harmonies.

Their bright, clear vocals are complemented by excellent vocal percussive elements, demonstrating both talent and originality. The serene scenery acts as an ideal backdrop, emphasizing the emotional impact of the song. BYU Vocal Point’s rendition of “You Raise Me Up” is not a duplicate, but rather a unique interpretation. Their smooth harmonies blur the line between lead and support, resulting in a dramatic addition of new melodic components at the end.
The addition of a chorus of extra students enhances the song’s powerful message, making an indelible effect on listeners. BYU Vocal Point’s expertise of acapella allows them to reinvent and transcend musical performance while exhibiting the transformative power of harmony and skill.
