My mother-in-law ate our $2000 wedding cake, so I covered it with sweet revenge.

My mother-in-law committed an unthinkable act the night before my wedding: she and her pals ate half of our $2000 bespoke wedding cake. Devastated yet resolute, I chose not to approach her right away. Instead, I plotted my retribution, focusing on the one thing she cared most about on my big day: her appearance. As she walked down the aisle, embarrassed by her new dress, I felt a strange joy. But my husband’s reaction to my retribution has left me wondering if I went too far in my pursuit of justice, or if she received her just desserts.

Details: I (28F) married my husband (30M) last weekend, however the lead-up to our special day was an awful nightmare due to my monster-in-law. My MIL has always been bossy and judgmental of our relationship, but I never expected her to fall this low. We spent months arranging our ideal wedding, which included a magnificent $2000 bespoke cake that was truly a work of art.The baker brought it to my in-laws’ house the night before the wedding for safekeeping.

A big mistake. My fiance gave me a panicked call at 11 p.m. He had gone to check on the cake, only to find his mother and her group of friends demolishing our wedding cake. They’d already eaten half of it, laughing and posing for photographs with frosting on their faces. I was seeing red. This woman had gone too far. My fiance was devastated, but insisted on not confronting her until after the wedding to avoid any turmoil. I grudgingly agreed, knowing I couldn’t let this go.

The next morning, when everyone else was preoccupied with wedding preparations, I sneaked into Mil’s room, discovered her neatly ironed mother-of-the-groom dress, and went to work. I reduced the hem by six inches, making it too short for a woman her age. Then I “accidentally” spilled cranberry juice in the front. When she walked down the aisle in a shambles, I felt a strange sense of joy.

She was humiliated, especially as the photographer kept attempting to get her to pose for family shots. My husband eventually discovered what I did and is upset. He claims Itook it too far, embarrassing the entire family. But, I feel she got what she deserved for spoiling one of the most significant aspects of our wedding.
