Fans are going crazy after discovering an unusual detail on Taylor Swift as she took the stage to claim one of her seven MTV Video Music Awards medals. The 34-year-old pop artist, who has broken records with her meteoric ascent to popularity, attended the awards presentation on September 11 in a shimmering silver short dress that was out of this world.

The asymmetrical mini was built with cargo utility straps and the body was adorned with elaborate detailing to create a UFO print depicting an alien invasion of the countryside. Swift’s clothing was custom-made, but on the Monse website, a comparable garment “inspired by the iconic sci-fi films of the 1950s” is offered for $990 with a January 2025 arrival date.

According to an April 2024 interview on iHeartRadio, her UFO-inspired clothing is most likely a tribute to the lyrics in her song “Down Bad,” which state that being “love bombed” is a “metaphor” for being abandoned by aliens following an abduction. “Like this girl was abducted by aliens, but she wanted to stay with them,” the singer says in the video she posted on Instagram.
“Then they drop her off in her hometown. She’s like, “Wait, no.” Where are you going? “I liked it there; it was weird but cool; come back.” The unusual design elicited both praise and perplexity, but many Swift fans on social media picked up on the metaphor and dubbed her attire the “Down Bad dress.” One person emphasizes the tweet with multiple exclamation marks, writing, “OMG the dress has a spaceship!!!
