Unspoken Truths: The Choices Spouses Make to Conceal

Sometimes we think we know our spouses better than anyone else, but they still surprise us. One woman recently revealed how she maintained a minor secret from her husband on a night out. Her phone’s battery was getting low when she was out to dinner, so she switched it off to save power. She became panicked on the way home when she realized her phone had gone missing.

She frantically checked her handbag and car but couldn’t find anything. Her concern grew, and she persuaded her husband to turn the car around and drive an hour back to the restaurant to recover it.Once there, the restaurant manager generously supported them in their search. Despite her husband’s mounting irritation, they investigated every imaginable location, determined to discover the missing phone.

But, in the hubbub, she felt something in her jacket pocket. To her surprise, her phone had been present all along. She chose not to confess, embarrassed by her error and sorry for making her husband travel all the way back. Instead, she excused herself to the restroom and, when she returned, nonchalantly stated, “Oh, I found it—turns out it was sitting on the toilet tank.” Her husband still has no idea that the phone never left her side. And to avoid further shame, she has decided to keep this little secret to herself.
