At the age of 85, she decided to treat herself to a night at a luxury hotel. But the next morning, when she checked out, she was surprised to see a $450 bill. Outraged, she demanded to know why the price was so expensive. “It’s a nice location,” she explained, “but $450 for one night? I didn’t even eat breakfast. The desk clerk gently explained that it was the regular fee, but she wouldn’t have it. “I want to speak to the manager!”
When the manager arrived, he grinned and said, “Our hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a world-renowned conference center, which are all available for your use.”
“But I didn’t use them!” she said, angry. “Ah, but they were here, and you had the option to use them,” the manager responded with a knowing smile. Then he described the hotel’s top-tier entertainment options. “We have the best performers from around the globe.”

She said, “Well, I didn’t see any shows!” “Perhaps not,” the manager answered, “but they were available, and you could have.” After many minutes of back-and-forth, with the manager outlining various amenities she had not used, she sighed and gave in. She took out her checkbook, scribbled a check, and handed it over.
The manager looked down, puzzled. “But ma’am, this is only for $50.”
“That’s right,” she said with a glint in her eye. “I’m charging you $400 for sleeping with me.” Flustered, the manager stuttered, “But I didn’t!” With a wink, she replied, “That’s too terrible. “I was here, and you could have been.” What’s the moral of the story? Never underestimate the sharp mind of a mature citizen!
