According to Insider, he and his wife Teresa intended to spend their retirement years traveling along the gorgeous roads of the United States and Canada. Unfortunately, their search for a suitable mobile home to purchase was unsuccessful. Clayton showed his unhappiness by discussing his struggle to find a mobile house that met their needs.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the constructed mobile homes, saying they needed to appear more robust for year-round usage rather than occasional getaways.Clayton envisioned converting a semitrailer into a living space that was as comfortable and high-quality as his family’s current home on Vancouver Island. They do, however, want it to be long-lasting.
He claimed that they planned to include solar power, water recycling, and other ecologically friendly technology to reduce our carbon footprint and offset the truck’s fuel consumption. Clayton started restoring a “real mess” of a truck five years ago.Clayton was unable to afford a new vehicle due to financial constraints, so he accepted the task of rebuilding a used one.
He spent a year restoring the car’s brakes, motor, and other mechanical parts. He bought a used trailer on eBay in addition to the truck. This blank canvas offered him the opportunity to express himself and make his vision a reality. Clayton stressed the gloomy nature of the place where he worked while explaining his inspiration.
He drew his ideas on a whiteboard and kept changing them.Converting the semitrailer into a living space was a demanding task that Clayton and his wife took on themselves, devoting their time and energy to the endeavor. Clayton worked tirelessly on the project every day for five years.
“Most of it I did myself,” Clayton claimed, pleased with his hands-on approach. He even made the curtains himself. Given the unique nature of their custom build, he was concerned that it would be difficult to find a contractor who understood his specifications, noting that “it would take longer to explain it than to actually do it.”
Another problem was material acquisition, which was exacerbated by the COVID-19 outbreak. Clayton indicated that Teresa, his wife, was in charge of the task. The DIY mobile house refurbishment also came at a steep price of about $180,000. Clayton and his wife added necessary components to make the semitrailer feel like a home and convert it into a comfortable living space.
