What’s the difference between a women’s XXL and a 2X?

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that it’s difficult to go into one store and find a pair of pants that fit, only to go to another store, pick out the same size, and realize you need one size larger. How is that possible? Are not sizes universal? Nope. And just wait till you realize the distinction between a women’s size XXL and 2X. A plus-sized influencer shared the surprising statistic with her TikTok followers, and many were taken aback.

“WHAT. And this is coming from someone who is plus-sized.” A quick inspection reveals no discernible difference between the two sizes. Plus, rationally speaking, doesn’t the “2” in 2X indicate a double extra-large or XXL? In one of her movies, Makayla Smith demonstrated that, while the difference is minor, it exists. And for those who are unsure which size is right for them, the answer is simple: comfort.

A retail clerk added, “xxl is still considered’straight sizing’ and is essentially just a larger size.” 2X is made with a plus size pattern.” Others were grateful Smith pointed out the difference between the two sizes, which many shops fail to see. “H&M thinks they are,” one user said. “This is probably why nothing fits me when I buy from Fashion Nova,” someone more commented.

In women’s clothes, a double extra large is an expanded size, and a 2X is a plus size. Extended sizes are based on straight sizes like as XXS, XS, XL, or 0-18. Plus sizes, on the other hand, are produced with a unique pattern. Typically, the patterns support varying hip-to-waist ratios and larger busts. The proportions also tend to shift as the size increases. Sizing varies by company, but plus sizes typically range from 0X to 4X or 14W to 30W. Select brands also provide extended sizes up to 6X.
