Klynn Scales grew up with her single mother and two younger brothers in an unhealthy home filled with v***iolence. Because of her family situation, she frequently had to steal food from nearby grocery stores so that her two younger brothers would not go hungry. Scales met Jeff Colvin, a kind-hearted police officer who would stop by her house every day on his way to work, when she was 9 years old. Scales would come running to greet him whenever he arrived…

Even though she didn’t know his name, she saw him as the only person she could trust as a child. When Jeff stopped by Scales’ house one day, she wasn’t in her usual spot waiting for him. Something was wrong, according to his gut instinct. He walked into the house and found her sick on the floor, and no one else was home at the time. He rushed her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with malnutrition.

Unfortunately, they lost contact when Scales relocated to another state. Colvin received an unexpected email 20 years later from the little girl he once saved. Scales has never forgotten her “hero” cop and has been looking for him to thank him for everything he has done for her. The two were recently reunited.

“Through all the bad situations, I would just picture him saying that he was here for us and that if we ever needed him, he would be right there to protect us,” Scales recalled.
