Alexis’ parents’ long-running bakery began to lose clients since they were unable to adapt to changing trends and remained conventional. As circumstances became more dire, they arranged a wedding for their daughter. Alexis was ready to marry someone she’d never met before.Robert was a wealthy man, yet he was somewhat cold. Despite the fact that they rarely communicated, their wedding was spectacular.

The wedding planner handled everything, even the slightest details. It was a beautiful day. Alexis wore a gown most women can only dream of, but she and her husband felt like strangers, which is exactly what they were. A few days before the wedding, Robert told Alexis, “I’m looking forward to being married. But I’m not sure what I’m doing,” and that was the closest he’d been to letting her in.
Following the wedding, the couple moved into Robert’s house. It was more like a mansion, with numerous rooms, each more finely constructed and equipped than the last “Come, I’ll show you around,” Robert said. “It’s beautiful,” Alexis said as they entered the kitchen. “Everything is beautiful.” “Now, Alexis, this house belongs to you too,” he remarked proudly. However, Robert enforced one rule. He asked Alexis not to go to the attic again. It was a forbidden room.
Alexis agreed and promised that she would never go into the attic. Her curiosity, however, outweighed her sensibilities, so when Robert left for a meeting and she was alone in the house, she went to the attic. When she opened the door, she started crying. She couldn’t understand how she could feel both perplexed and relieved at the same time.

In the dimly lit attic, Alexis felt as if she had discovered a treasure trove of her husband’s hidden memories. Toys with untold stories, antique postcards, and photographs from Robert’s life before his marriage were scattered across the room. Amidst these antiques, poignant letters exchanged between a tiny child and his father, a soldier stationed far away during the war, lay nestled, affording views into a bygone era.
“How dare you enter this place?” My wife refuses to cooperate with my demands, so I am forced to change the locks on my own home. Alexis observed Robert at the door, visibly upset. “I just want to know you, Robert, I just want to understand,” she told herself. Looking at his wife, Robert calmed down and started telling her the story. My father was stern. He was a soldier, and he believed in keeping his feelings disguised. “These are the only things I have from a time when I felt loved,” he told me.

Robert discussed his lonely childhood and the boy who longed for his father’s acceptance. This realization gave Robert immense relief. He was no longer the cold, silent man Alexis was used to seeing. In those moments, he transformed and let Alexis in, and their bond grew stronger. Years later, Robert’s bitter memories have been replaced with his daughter April’s laughter. He gradually let go of the things that had been bothering him for so long and cleared out the attic, which is now a small reading nook.
