Halle Berry Wears Iconic Oscar Gown 22 Years Later, but Everyone Highlights the Same Issue

Halle Berry wore the same renowned sheer gown she wore to the 2002 Academy Awards, twenty-two years later. The 58-year-old actress made history with her appearance in Monster’s Ball (2001), becoming the first Black woman to win the Best Actress Academy Award, her first in this category. Berry revisited that memorable night at the 1001 Seasons of Elie Saab event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday, November 13, wearing what is thought to be the same renowned gown. However, something about the clothing raises questions. The event commemorated the brand’s 45th anniversary and included performances by Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Nancy Ajram, and Amr Diab.

Berry looked lovely in the gown, accessorizing with huge gemstone earrings and wearing her hair in a polished top knot. The dress, a mesh bodysuit embellished with flower appliqués combined with a silky, asymmetrical ruby red skirt, was regarded as a watershed moment for Middle Eastern designers at the time, and it helped establish Saab as a household name.

Berry shared a video on Instagram of her runway moment from the Saudi Arabia event, captioned, “There are some moments in life that just happen and impact our lives forever! Winning an Academy Award in my @eliesaabworld gown was one of those experiences for me! Thank you, Mr. Saab, for being a part of my life’s tapestry for the past 22 years! It was an honor to commemorate you and your 1001 Seasons. Here’s to many more wonderful years of joy, creativity, and glamor!”Fans were blown away by the star’s ageless beauty.

One person yelled, “How?!” This doesn’t make any sense.” Another person commented, “Beautiful, Grace, Confidence, Smarts, Innovation, Timeless.” Thank you for maintaining it. A third person commented, “Just as beautiful as the first time.”

Another fan said, “She never ages!” Simply glides through the aging process with elegance and charm! FACE CARD NEVER DECLINES!!!!” Finally, a fifth admirer said, “Halle is keeping a big secret from us y’all; she discovered the fountain of youth and is keeping it to herself…” “Girl, you need to share ASAP!”
Among all the adoration, some observant admirers saw something noteworthy about the garment. One individual said, “It’s so obvious, it’s not the original dress.” Someone else wrote: “Although Ms. Berry looks so very beautiful, she appears to be wearing a copy of the original Oscar dress.”

Another person clarified: “It looks like it has been taken up from the neck so that the whole dress sits slightly higher.” Another individual said, “It is not the same clothing. Look at the skirt. It is different. Also, the neckline seems different, and the appliqués are darker. It resembles a Wish version of the original outfit.”
