My grandparents, as far as I know, never used technology. I can hardly get through a tutorial on how to shoot photos with their smartphone. It’s not that they don’t want to learn, but they prefer to use their handheld camera rather than take a quick photo with their cellphone. I don’t blame them; there’s something nostalgic about taking photos with an old-fashioned camera. My grandparents are intelligent people; they simply refuse to adapt to the changing environment around them. And I fully respect that.
Google Home is assisting, and occasionally hindering, homes throughout the world. For some, it represents the pinnacle of cutting-edge technology, providing quick access to knowledge and the ability to retrieve specific recipes or songs in few seconds. Others face a learning curve, and the growing pains are more than interesting.

Consider this feisty Italian grandmother, apparently chosen by her family to sit with Google Home and see if she can figure it out. Grandma’s demeanor is determined, stubborn, and goofy, which leads to some really entertaining situations.
First and foremost, Grandma continues calling Google “Goo Goo,” and she can’t seem to address it as “Hey Goo Goo” or “Ok Goo Goo.” She starts tapping the machine and leans in for a better listen. When she finally gets the device to function, Google gives her an accurate weather forecast, and she stands up and whispers, “I’m afraid. It is a mystery. “Oh, my gosh…”

She asks to hear an Italian song, but to no avail, going off into a burst of Italian (son interprets, and it’s the funniest remark) while tapping the device one more time to which the machine still does not respond.
She even becomes a little angry, ordering the machine to “Do it!!!,” which ends with everyone laughing out loud. However, it’s all in good fun, demonstrating how difficult it can be to incorporate new technologies into our life. Grandma’s almost got the hang of it; she’ll get her Italian song and maybe the whole opera in no time if she keeps on practicing.
