If you detect a small pocket in your underwear, you should know what it means.

If you’re anything like me, your mind is constantly filled with burning questions. I can’t tell you how often I look forward to getting into bed at night, exhausted from a hard day, only to have my mind go into overdrive the moment my head hits the pillow. I believe I am not alone in this, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, having a healthy curiosity in the world we live in can’t be bad, right?

Fortunately, we live in a time when even the most complex issues can be answered with a few mouse clicks. Despite its perceived shortcomings, the internet has profoundly altered the lives of our species by acting as an unequaled repository of easily accessible information. In short, it provides solutions to even the most mundane queries, which means that if my brain decides it’s time to go when I should be sleeping, I can quench my desire for information fast and effectively.

You may like. During one of these post-midnight fact-finding missions, I came across an unrelated article that I felt could be useful to some of our readers. It refers to the little pockets that appear in the crotch area of both male and female underpants. Now, I’ll confess it: I had no idea this existed. However, you might not. Pockets do not occur in all underwear, and when they do, they are supposedly the same color as the underwear to help them blend in.

In any event, they exist and are commonly referred to as a gusset or crotch liner. But what exactly are they used for? Contrary to popular opinion, they are neither used to store toilet paper, nor are they a frivolous addition made for no reason. No, a gusset is purportedly used in clothing to enhance width and decrease stress when the apparel is tight fitting. This is especially significant for women’s underwear, as it reduces irritation and inflammation.

Not only that, but the gusset helps to remove excess moisture, keeping the wearer’s genital area dry. This helps to minimize yeast and bacteria. Did you know what this small pocket was used for? Please let us know in the comments.
