Reba McEntire’s name is linked with country music. Since her debut in the late 1970s, she has captured the hearts of millions. She is known for her loud voice and bright attitude, and she had two marriages. She is also the proud mother of Shelby.Despite her popularity and ever-present grin, Reba has experienced her fair share of sadness. In 2022, she lost her beloved mother, Jacqueline, to cancer.
Reba was deeply saddened by Jacqueline’s death because they shared such a strong friendship. Reba wrote on social media, “The cancer might think it won the battle, but we’re giving God all the credit for choosing the time for her to go home to Him.” Jacqueline had once wanted to be a singer. Although her personal ambitions did not come true, she passed on her passion for singing to Reba. She left a legacy of love, and Reba loves the many memories they made together. However, this was not Reba’s first experience with loss.

A devastating loss. On March 16th, thirty-two years ago, a devastating plane crash killed seven members of Reba’s band and her manager. It was a day she will never forget. Reba and her band were in San Diego for a concert in 1991, preparing to travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Reba and her then-husband decided to stay in San Diego and travel later. Sadly, the band’s jet crashed only ten miles after takeoff.
Reba always honors the memory of her band members, even after decades have passed. Reba recounted the tragic moments following the tragedy in a heartbreaking interview with Oprah in 2012. “The tip of the wing of the airplane hit a rock on the side of Otay Mountain, and it killed everyone on the plane,” she said. Reba’s manager, Narvel, delivered the bad news. “Narvel came back to the hotel room—two or three o’clock in the morning—and told me that one of the planes had crashed,” she said in tears.
When Reba asked Narvel about the fate of those on board, his response was unknown, leaving her with a terrible reality. Despite the passage of more than two decades, the recollection of that night stays vivid in her heart. Reba remembered those she had lost once more in 2020. “I lost friends in an aircraft tragedy thirty-nine years ago today,” she wrote on social media. Touchingly, she mentioned that her dear mother’s death coincided with this occasion.
