Chopped Wedge Salad

Look, Wedge Salads are fantastic, thanks to a combination of crunchy iceberg lettuce, tangy blue cheese, salty bacon, and fresh juicy tomatoes. But — and there is a major but — they are extremely impractical to consume. You’re offered a large triangle of lettuce on a dish loaded with a variety of delectable items, but how can you get them all into each bite? Furthermore, how do you get it into your mouth without causing a mess? It’s a classic with a delicious combination of ingredients, but I’ve always thought the delivery left a lot to be desired.

But, nevertheless, we now have this Chopped Wedge Salad. See, it has all of the flavor you’ve come to expect from a classic Wedge Salad, but it’s not served as a wedge. Instead, everything is bite-sized so you can eat every last delectable mouthful with ease. This sounds like a no-brainer. All of the benefits of Wedge Salad without the one drawback – the wedge. The foundation still has lots of iceberg lettuce, which is essential for a Wedge Salad, but it’s balanced out with softer, more delicious romaine. (In other words, you have the best of both worlds.)

One wonderful lettuce tip: chop and clean your lettuce ahead of time, then dry it thoroughly and keep it in a ziptop bag lined with two paper towels. It keeps the lettuce fresh and crisp for a long time, sometimes even a week! The remaining components are probably familiar. There are halved cherry tomatoes, crispy salty bacon, and a big crumble of blue cheese. Blue cheese is not generally my go-to cheese, but it is perfect for a Wedge Salad since its salty bite complements all of the other ingredients.
