While some thought the returning First Lady was making a daring fashion statement, others feel she had different objectives.
Melania Trump wore a wide-brimmed dark-colored hat, a matching dark coat, and black leather gloves. Social media users were eager to comment on what they thought the attire looked like, with some even comparing her appearance to McDonald’s ‘Hamburgler’ figure. While some individuals made lighthearted jokes about Melania Trump’s wedding attire, others used it as evidence for a conspiracy theory in which some claim she has a body double.
Those who accept the notion believe Melania left her husband, Donald Trump, years ago, and that there is now a body double for the First Lady who attends public events alongside President Donald Trump. Others who support the notion believe that the employment of a body duplicate was motivated by the attempted assassination of Trump last year. Both conspiracies lack substantiation.
One user noted that Melania’s dress choices did little to disprove the popular body double theory. They wrote on X, “That Bolero hat Melania is wearing won’t do much to dispel the rumors that she has a body double#TrumpInauguration2025,” one guy said. Another user remarked in support of the body double theory regarding the assassination attempt, “Interesting attire today.
The hat is so low on her brow that you can’t see her face well. I honestly believe that’s a body double, not the genuine Melania. It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump was aware of threats to his life and chose not to put her in danger. Another individual added with a great deal of enthusiasm, “THAT IS NOT MELANIA THEY PUT HER IN THE OPPENHEIMER A- HAT BECAUSE SHE LEFT TRUMPS A- AND THEY PUT A BODY DOUBLE IN HER PLACE BUT IT DOESNT RLLY LOOK LIKE HER SO THEY PUT HER IN THE OPPENHEIMER A- HAT SO THE MEDIA CANNOT TELL.”
Others were suspicious because the weather in D.C. did not warrant a hat; one user noted, “The Melania body double is the only person wearing a hat in DC today” Others, however, were skeptical about this hypothesis and asked questions. One person questioned why the First Lady would skip out on such an important event, writing, “Bologna! There is no Melania body double! Why would she miss out on so much fun?
Another person wrote, referencing to the conspiracy idea, “Are you seeing the BS that is floating around that that hat and suit was masking a body double for Melania?
