I Abandoned My Niece Because My Sister Wouldn’t Come and Get Her

Caring for a small child is not easy. You’re constantly on edge, making sure they don’t get into trouble, keeping them nourished and entertained, cleaning up their unending messes, and managing to function on little sleep. It’s non-stop turmoil. One Redditor’s sister was completely overwhelmed by parenting her two-year-old. Sometimes she’d sneak out to the restroom for a little break, leaving her daughter in the care of her adolescent brother. But after too many “quick favors,” her brother had reached his limit. He left the kid alone and walked out of the house.

This brave move elicited a variety of comments online. Let’s get into the whole story. A young man took to Reddit to share an emotive and contentious experience.A 19-year-old man recently took to Reddit with an emotive post that elicited passionate responses in the comments section. The OP stated, “My sister, 26, still lives at home and always asks me to watch her child for ‘2 minutes’ while she goes to the bathroom.” She then sits there indefinitely without showing up. She simply uses it as an excuse when she is tired of being with her child. When she did it again, I felt enraged and resolved to give her a lesson.”

The man went on to say, “She leaves, and time passes, and 2 minutes turns into 15 minutes, and she still hasn’t returned. And you wonder what’s taking her so long, so you go bang on the door, and she finally comes out 20 minutes later.” One day, the OP’s sister went far with her entitled manner. The man explained, “I know what she’s doing when she asks for this, so I always say no, but she asked me this time, and I said yes because I wasn’t doing anything else. But I had to go in 10-15 minutes, so I told her, and she said she wouldn’t be there long.

I accepted her word for it and went to entertain her kid (2) for the time being. It was getting close to the time I had to leave, and she still wasn’t out, so I messaged her, and she said she’d be there in a minute. A minute passed, and she still wasn’t out, so I stepped up to the door and informed her I needed to leave, but she didn’t respond, likely because she was wearing NC headphones, or she was ignoring me.”

The OP had had enough and decided to leave the youngster unsupervised. The OP stated, “I didn’t have time to wait, so I went back and told my niece to go get her mother, and I just left, and I could hear her crying and running after me as I walked out the door.” When I returned, my sister was furious and questioned what was wrong with me and why I would ‘abandon’ her when she was crying like that, and I simply answered I had to go, and I did tell her I had to leave by a particular time. I felt horrible, but she isn’t my child.
