America’s Got Talent, one of the world’s most popular talent shows, recently featured a recognizable face to Eurovision viewers. Gabriella Laberge, a French-Canadian singer and violinist who competed in France’s Destination Eurovision in 2019, wowed both the audience and the judges with her stunning audition.
Gabriella spoke about her dreams in a pre-performance video before taking the stage on AGT. “This is the opportunity of my life,” she joked, “to chase my biggest dream, which is doing music for the rest of my life.” The Quebec-born performer then came with her violin, kicking off her audition with a lovely solo performance.
While judges Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum were clearly impressed by her performance, Simon Cowell appeared less so. His palm hesitated over the red buzzer, indicating his willingness to cut her performance short. Gabriella, however, had a surprise for them.

Gabriella began singing “Goodbye My Lover” by James Blunt as she switched from playing to singing. Her lovely voice immediately drew Cowell’s attention, forcing him to take his hand off the button.
The judges and audience gave her a standing ovation for her performance, and Cowell joined in. The panel voted unanimously to advance her to the next level of the competition.
However, Gabriella’s AGT adventure is far from over. Her audition appeared during the season’s final round of auditions, on episode eight. With over 150 acts receiving “yes” votes throughout the season, only 36 can advance to the live shows. Fans will need to wait for the series to return after a three-week break to learn whether Gabriella will be among the finalists.
Gabriella’s television appearances began in 2019 when she competed in the second season of France’s Destination Eurovision. Her song, “On cherche encore (Never Get Enough),” was a fan favorite. However, despite her popularity, she was eliminated during the semi-finals. The competition was finally won by Bilal Hassani with the song “Roi.”
