My wife always picks up our son at kindergarten. Today, she was sick, so I went instead. “Where is Timmy’s dad today?” the teacher inquired. I was perplexed.
Then a man ran in. She pointed to him: “There he is.” The man glanced at me and said, “It’s finally time for you to know!” My stomach sank. I’d never seen this guy in my life.
At first, I assumed it was simply a misunderstanding. But when my son saw him, he began to smile and say, “Hi, Uncle Jerry!” The man turned back to me and said, “Go ask your wife.”

I rushed home to confront her. She broke down in tears and confessed. She’d planned to leave me for a year. She had met this man and described him as “the love of her life.” Our relationship hadn’t been great during the last year, but I never anticipated she’d already gone on.
Now I understood why she refused to work on our marriage and avoided couples therapy. Today, my entire universe is shattered. But deep down, I know that moving on is the only option. I’m confident that time will heal this wound. But for now, I’m still in shock.
