Trump Replaces Obama’s Portrait With Shocking New Painting — Critics Left Speechless

Donald Trump appears to have been working on redecorating the White House interior when he isn’t starting a trade war with other countries or considering annexing Greenland. After his inauguration in January, Trump promptly made his own mark on the US presidential building, destroying any decorations left by the Biden administration and raising flags wherever he could.

The 47th president of the United States is replacing a portrait of former President Barack Obama with a painting commemorating the events that followed his historic assassination attempt, according to the official White House social media account. A video on X displayed the change with the caption, “Some new artwork at the White House.”

Here’s a quick recap for anyone who is unfamiliar with or may have forgotten the specifics of Trump’s attempted assassination. On July 13, 2024, gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump as he spoke at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Before security could take the stage, a bullet came near to clipping the now-president’s upper right ear.

Trump then sprang to his feet, blood streaming down his face, and slammed his fist into the air. “Fight, fight, fight,” he yelled as the photo was taken, and it would eventually become a rallying cry for his presidential campaign supporters. According to the Associated Press, the image, created by Marc Lipp, was delivered to the White House by Andrew from the Blue Blue Gallery in Delray Beach, Florida.

According to the New York Times, it is uncommon for a US president to display a portrait of himself while in office. The publication also noted that historians could not find another instance of this occurring. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later defended the choice to display the artwork, stating that the facility is the “executive mansion, and the president has the right to make changes, as other presidents have in the past.”

“President Trump decided to temporarily display this painting, which represents a pivotal moment in history when he nearly lost his life,” he said. Later, press secretary Harrison Fields confirmed (via MailOnline) that the Obama image had been relocated to the ‘Entrance Hall of the White House State Floor’, and posted a photo of the new location.
