My mom’s Secret

When I was six, Mom helped at a soup kitchen. I recall her taking me with her every week. She was my idol. Then one day, when I was 15, the doorbell rang. There were two serious-looking males who urged her to join them. I found that all these years, mother had been taking me to the soup kitchen to steal. She had been using me as a distraction for years while stealing money.

While I kept the staff busy, she would sneak away to the cash register and grab only a few bills at a time—never enough to raise suspicion. But over time, it amounted to a large sum. No one noticed until recently, when she began returning and was eventually caught on camera.

I was shocked. My whole reality disintegrated. Initially, I refused to believe it, but Mom eventually admitted everything. She told me she did it because she was a single mother in need of money. The way I saw her had altered forever.
