Is Snoop Dogg a celebrity that I completely adore? Yes. Is Snoop Dogg the celebrity I’d look to for a brownie recipe? Not very much. While Snoop is undoubtedly a guy of many abilities, and he may even have a lot of expertise baking a specific type of brownie, he’s not the first person I’d turn to find the perfect classic fudgy brownie recipe. But perhaps that mindset should change.
Perhaps Snoop has the finest brownie out there. (He has a cookbook, after all!) We chose to find out. We prepared these brownies as part of our Celebrity Brownie Recipe Showdown. The showdown is a fun exercise in which we cook four celebrity recipes, some by celebrity chefs, some not so much, and then taste and compare them to see how they stack up. Kris Jenner, Gordon Ramsay, Alton Brown, and Snoop Dogg all competed in this matchup. They were all unique and wonderful in their own way.
Snoop’s brownies are made with chocolate chips, which is a great change from chopping pricey chocolate and almost as simple as a cocoa powder brownie. He also includes the usual suspects such as flour, salt, vanilla, eggs, and butter, as well as some unusual ingredients such as baking soda and milk.
How Can You Make Snoop Dogg’s Brownies? The procedure is a little different than other brownies I’ve made. Snoop instructs you to combine the milk, butter, and sugar in a pot and come to a boil before removing from the heat and stirring in some, but not all, of the chocolate chips. Once melted, whisk in the eggs and vanilla, then the flour, baking soda, and salt. (And no, you don’t need a mixer here. (A spoon and/or whisk will suffice.) Before it goes into the oven, sprinkle the remaining chocolate pieces on top.
How Do They Taste? I will inform you in a second. First and foremost, I must express my admiration for this stunning brownie! They’re lighter in color than most brownies but have a gorgeous shiny and crackly top that’s punctuated by dark chocolate chips. Just wonderful.
But, more significantly, they taste great. Everyone in the studio who tried them loved them and was pleasantly surprised by how excellent they were. The texture is delightfully fudgy, and the flavor is not overpoweringly chocolatey. Rather, the overall chocolate flavor is a little muted but then you get pockets of melty sweet chocolate chips which get you right to the chocolate level you want. This method provides greater flavor diversity, resulting in a complex brownie. Way to go, Snoop!
