This Broke Their Lifelong Friendship

My best friend and I have known each other for about 17 years, and our girls are approximately the same age, so they have always been close. She requested me to care after her 15-year-old while she went on a week-long trip with her new lover. Not a problem at all.

But then her daughter became very ill. I had to hurry her to the hospital because she was severely ill, and it turned out she need immediate surgery. I stayed at her child’s side for three days, ensuring she received the care she need and coordinating everything with the physicians.

I kept my friend updated and called her soon away, but instead of returning home early, she said it would be too expensive to alter her ticket. She even stated, “You don’t need to go to the hospital every day. “The nurses can handle it.”

When she eventually returned, instead of thanking me, she raged at me for “interfering with her parenting” and “making decisions for her daughter.” I will never speak with that “friend” again.
