Nicole Kidman Posts Unseen Pics of Her Late Mom for Mother’s Day—and Reveals Her Touching Final Wish

Nicole Kidman took to Instagram on Sunday to post a poignant homage to her late mother, Janelle, who died last year at the age of 84. The acclaimed actress also revealed previously unseen content in her Instagram Stories, providing insight into her mother’s deathbed desire.

The actress marked Mother’s Day by tweeting a heartfelt photo of her beloved mother standing in front of Uluru. Nicole’s kids, Sunday Rose, now 16, and Faith Margaret, 14, were only toddlers when the photo was taken. Nicole also shared a photo of Janelle walking alongside two of her grandkids down a path near the famed Indigenous sacred site and popular tourist destination.

In addition, the actress used Instagram Stories to share a deeply personal homage – a piece of artwork created by Australian artist and writer Jaq Grantford in response to one of her beloved mother’s dying wishes.

The artist wrote in her post, “The sitting for this photograph of sisters Antonia and Nicole Kidman took place in Sydney last Christmas Eve. The picture is an homage to their mother, Janelle Kidman, who died in September 2024.

She added, “It was an honor to paint such great women. The photo was requested by their extraordinary mother, Janelle Kidman, who passed away lately. One of her final requests was to see a photograph of her two daughters together.

Grantford went on to say, “One of Janelle’s dying wishes was to have this portrait painted to commemorate her daughters’ close family bond.” I felt honored and touched when they agreed to a Christmas sitting. The painter continued: “The fact that they could all get together on such a special day was ‘a Christmas miracle’ according to Nicole.”

The piece goes on to say, “Grantford draped material around them as a reference to children playing make-believe and to unite the sisters, demonstrating their close relationship.” The sumptuous brocade, printed with flowers their mother adored, pays homage to Hollywood and glamour, while the fading edges evoke old family photos and recollections from the past.”
