I Refuse to Pay for My MIL’s 90th Birthday Dinner; She Cannot Keep Using Me.

So, since my FIL’s death, my MIL has expected us to cover her birthday meal every year. This time, everything changed when we uncovered the truth: she had retirement funds. I overheard SIL’s youngster discussing it, and we discovered that even though MIL assisted SIL’s family, she continued to beg for money without hesitation.

When the check arrived, my husband addressed her, saying, “Mom, we’re not covering anymore. We’ve already revealed that you’re taking advantage of us.” My sister-in-law was taken aback, and my mother-in-law hurriedly said, “She’s my daughter, I have to help her.”

My husband then asked, “But I’m also your son, right? “What is the difference?” MIL fell into tears, accused me of everything, and shamed me. I supported my husband, but she is now asking for an apology.

Was I wrong to support my husband? As a mom, shouldn’t she treat her kids equally? I’ve always believed that justice within a family is essential for maintaining solid ties.

We’ve done so much without expecting anything in return, and it hurts to see our loyalty disrespected. I’m trying to keep the peace, but I don’t want to remain silent when something feels wrong.
