Tom Jones talks candidly about his marriage and love life after his wife’s death.

Sir Tom Jones, affectionately known as “The Bull from Wales,” has a remarkable career spanning six decades. This singing icon was once dubbed a “musical shape shifter” for his ability to transition across musical genres. The now-80-year-old has received numerous other accolades for his contributions to music, including a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth in 2016 for the son of a coal miner, Thomas John Woodward.

Tom Jones was knighted, which was a magnificent distinction, but the same year he also experienced the deepest loss of his life: the death of his wife. Sir Tom had been married to Linda Trenchard since 1957 and was forced to bid farewell to his loving life partner. Linda died four years ago from a “short but fierce” battle with lung cancer. Following Linda’s death, Tom canceled all of his shows and issued a brief statement:

“Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, she passed away peacefully,” according to Sir Tom’s website. But last year, Sir Tom spoke up about her untimely demise. In an appearance with This Morning, the Welshman stated that he would “never love again”. His wife’s death devastated him, and he struggled to perform on stage long after Linda was gone. “When my wife passed away, I didn’t think I could sing,” Sir Tom explained. “When you’re emotional, you can’t sing; your voice shuts down. “There are some songs I wouldn’t do. But you have to attempt to put things in the appropriate perspective. Feeling emotional? Use it to your advantage by incorporating it into the song. Currently lives in London. “It took me a while,” he said. “It took me several months to see if I could sing.

I got some of my musicians together and tried out a couple songs. But it was quite emotional.” Linda’s death also had other consequences: Jones decided to sell their large estate in Los Angeles, as well as all of their belongings, in order to return to the United Kingdom. He now resides in a flat in London, as Linda had wished. His late wife was homesick and longed to return to her origins, but cancer snatched her life before that could happen.

“She always said she wanted to come back, but she couldn’t, so she told me to do it in the last week she was alive,” said Sir Tom, who had been married to Linda for 59 years. Jones clearly still mourns Linda, whom he married at the age of 16. Linda was 15 years old when the pair met. Speaking to Radio 2, Sir Tom revealed the moment he first spotted his future wife: “I remember her playing marbles and thinking, ‘My God, what amazing legs she’s got. She was the most attractive female around, so we got acquainted. “It was magic,” the singer stated. Linda and Sir Tom married as teenagers, less than a month before the birth of their son, Mark.

But their marriage would be fraught with scandal and betrayal. Tom cheated on his wife for over fifty years.Tom, who took on the role of sex symbol, previously claimed to sleeping with 250 women every year at the height of his fame. “From the very beginning, he was not exactly Mr Faithful,” biographer Sean Smith told the Daily Mail in 2015.

It’s unknown how much Linda knew about her husband’s dark side, but it’s apparent she thought something was wrong. Sir Tom claimed that the couple had a “don’t ask” policy while he was on tour. “Linda had a secluded existence, rarely leaving the couple’s property in Bel Air. Robin Eggar, who wrote Tom Jones’ official biography, told the Daily Mail that during her single marriage to Tom, she struggled with alcohol.

After 2003, the wife stopped accompanying her husband on tours and spent most of her time at home at the couple’s Bel Air residence. She had previously been through multiple scandals, which must have harmed their relationship. Tom Jones had a three-day romance with Katherine Berkery, 24, while touring the United States in 1987.

According to sources, Katherine was unaware he was married, and Tom refused to return her phone calls when she realized she was pregnant with his kid.
Jonathan Berkery was born nine months later, in June 1988, in New York. Sir Tom denied being Jon’s father and refused to recognize that it was his child. However, in 1989, a DNA test confirmed that he was the boy’s father.

According to the Daily Express, he was subsequently obliged to pay maintenance on a monthly basis until Jonathan turned 18. But it took many years for Sir Tom to accept Jon’s existence, and he has showed little interest in meeting his son. “It was not something I planned. I was deceived. “I fell for the seduction,” Tom Jones admitted in 2008. Jonathan grew raised with his mother, but he always wanted to meet his renowned father.

Blames his father. “When his wife Linda died, I hoped we would finally meet and get to know each other, but that did not happen,” Jonathan told the Sunday Mirror.”Now I’m concerned about him getting ill. He’s old; he might die before I have a chance to repair the wrongs. I don’t want anything from my father; all I want to do is sit and talk, tell him about my life and ask him about his – simply everyday things.”

Jonathan Berkery became hooked to drugs and alcohol and spent several years living on the streets, which he blames on his father, Tom Jones. “Not having a father growing up was difficult. All I wanted was his love. “People think I look and sound like a younger version of my father,” Jonathan explains.
