Life is already difficult for many. So, when you throw a physical disability into the mix, life becomes even more challenging. Regardless of who we are, what kind of setbacks we have, or what our age may be, it is important that when necessary, we rely on one another for help.
For one bus driver, who goes by the name of Thaddeus Turner, volunteering to help one of his elderly passengers,

Gene Hubbard, cross an under-construction road was not an option but a necessity. His help was all out of goodwill and for Gene’s safety. After being diagnosed with diabetes, Gene eventually went blind in both eyes and has been suffering from vision impairment for two decades now. His condition, however, doesn’t stop him from getting around town and doing what he loves.

While Gene had a cane to help him navigate, nothing beats having a second set of eyes to help guide him, especially when crossing a busy street dotted with orange cones and large clumps of dirt alongside the road. Thaddeus, on the other hand, offered just that as he jumped out of his driver’s seat and linked Gene’s arm to his as they carefully drove down the street to where Gene needed to be.

I was overjoyed to see the bus driver-assist this man. Others noticed the respectful act, in addition to video footage provided by cameras embedded in Thaddaus’ bus for security purposes. Someone even took a photo and shared it on social media.

Gene later told Fox 6, “If I don’t have a regular locating point to start from, I may as well be in the middle of the ocean.” But thanks to Thaddaus’ help, Gene made it safely across the street and was very thankful for the kindness this man displayed for him!

I think if we all would go out of our way to help others when we can, the world would be a happier place.

That said, next time you come across someone with an impairment or who otherwise may be in a dangerous situation as Gene could have been, show them that you care by helping them with whatever task they may need assistance with.
