In a report by the Daily Mail, Grier admitted:
“When I saw the woman on the side of the road barefoot I urged my driver to stop, the woman was barefoot and had never owned shoes before. […] We stopped the car to pull over and give them to her, her reaction to wearing the shoes was priceless!”
When the woman saw the driver walk towards her with the pair of shoes, she started the celebration with a broad smile.

In a post shared by Laura Grier on Instagram, she wrote: “This moment will stay with me forever and is one of the many humbling moments in my life that traveling creates! I brought some old tennis shoes with me in my bag to Africa to give away and we found this adorable pygmy woman who has never owned a pair of shoes and gifted her my sneakers.
Our driver David got out and helped her to tie them and put them on and her reaction to wearing shoes for the first time was priceless and brought tears to my eyes!!”
Honestly, multiple people in the world struggle simply to find clean water to drink or food to give their children. Items like clothing and jewelry are hard to come by, and women, like the one Laura helped, have never even owned a pair of shoes before.
