David is known as “The Baby Whisperer” by the nurses at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta for his ability to calm small babies who require additional care in the hospital. David Deutchman was looking for something to do with his time after retiring 15 years ago, and when he learned about the “baby buddy” program at Scottish Rite Hospital, he knew it was something he would enjoy doing for the rest of his life.

The baby buddy program was designed to aid newborns who are premature or require particular medical treatment, but many parents have to work while their babies are in the hospital, so their youngsters need to be cuddled and made happy, which is where David comes in. Aside from David’s capacity to quiet screaming babies, nurses have discovered that when Deutchman holds the babies, they respond significantly better to painful treatments such as injections.
