This couple transformed their dream home by combining two little cottages with a large terrace.

After their first tiny house was destroyed, a couple named Lauren and Patrick worked together to rebuild it into their dream home. The pair used to live in Kansas City, Missouri but decided to move after craving a change in scenery. While exploring their options, they stumbled upon the tiny house movement and were instantly attracted to the idea. Lauren and Patrick imagined that living in one would give them the freedom to travel while having a home they could call their own!

Lauren and Patrick set out to build their tiny house and spent around $32,000 on the entire build. They lived in it for about a year and a half, the majority of which was spent traveling. They eventually purchased a plot of land, and as they were about to drive uphill to their new location, they hit a steep and bumpy road. The trailer then rolled back behind them and fell into a ditch.

Their house was ruined—the cabinets and the stairs had fallen off the wall. Sadly, the house wasn’t livable anymore. Devastated, Lauren and Patrick kept the home in the back of their yard. But after a year, the couple gathered the courage to rebuild their tiny house. Today, their 10-acre property features two tiny houses connected by an expansive 320-square-foot deck.

During the summer, the outdoor deck space is used to entertain visitors and watch movies with a projector. One of the small houses is on a 20-foot-long trailer purchased from Colorado’s Tumbleweed Tiny Homes. Both have running water, power, and a septic system. Lauren and Patrick felt they needed a little more room to accommodate a washer and dryer.

So, after moving to the neighborhood full-time, they purchased a “small house.” The utility room is located on the backside of the small house and houses the good tank, water filtration system, water heater, and breaker box. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy the surrounding region of their home. “We adore the scenery here.

We’ve had a family of foxes living in a den up there for the last few years since we came up here, and they’re incredibly entertaining to watch,” Lauren explained.

A large kitchen space occupies roughly 14 feet of the 20-foot-long trailer within the tiny house. It has a large sink, custom cabinetry and shelving, a drawer-style dishwasher, a subway tile backsplash, a two-burner cooktop, and a low-profile hood vent. A retractable ladder allows access to a storage loft over the kitchen. They keep their extra kitchen supplies in the cabinets up there.

The hook-on hammock chairs are a great element in the house for sitting back and relaxing. A retractable ladder can also be used to access the sleeping loft. It has a queen-size bed and a projector screen that folds down to serve as a blackout curtain. There is a regular-sized shower, a sink, and a flush toilet in the bathroom.

Lauren and Patrick will have more space to relax in the little house because it is better insulated. It includes a comfortable couch, a mini-fridge, an ice maker, and additional closet space. They also installed a home office for Lauren to utilize when working from home.
