A mom who had lost her son 57 years ago was frozen stiff when she saw him on TV on a random comedy show. Her tears didn’t stop flowing to see her son alive, but she soon realized he was in BIG trouble. Life truly puts some people to the test, and that’s precisely what happened with Erin Johnson 50 years ago!
Erin was stunningly gorgeous and worked as a nurse at a small hospital in Ojai, California. Her husband Pete worked as an orderly at the same hospital, and their love story was unlike any other. Pete and Erin initially met while performing an emergency delivery of a woman whose water broke on the hospital stairwell. The baby was born healthy, and Pete and Erin’s love story began just as the baby started its new life.
Pete and Erin started seeing each other, fell in love, got married, and welcomed baby Adrian three years later. Life was happy and perfect, they thought until Pete die=d in a car crash. Erin’s life fell apart once she lost Pete. She’d been widowed at a young age and didn’t know how she’d deal with everything on her own. But having Adrian gave her optimism that life would be better!
So for the child’s sake, she tried to pull herself together and start over Adrian, who was only three years old when Erin lost Pete, was an exact replica of his late father. He was also as sweet and generous as Pete but a bit of a mischievous child. He once injured himself while attempting to save a sick dog that was about to tumble into a ditch.
In the process, he fell on his face on the road and got a scar that stretched from his cheek to the neck. While Erin was happy her son was doing the right thing, she was terrified whenever Adrain got even in the smallest of troubles. She’d lost Pete and couldn’t afford to lose Adrain too. But then fate intervened!
Erin took Adrian to a carnival for his fourth birthday. There were plenty of rides and games to choose from, and Adrian was pretty excited. They spent the whole day together, walking around the fair and trying out different kinds of cotton candies, popcorn, hotdogs, and much more! By evening, Adrian was tired, and he asked Erin to get him some water.
They proceeded to a stall to get a bottle of water, but there was a huge crowd, so she told Adrian to wait for her at a nearby bench. Erin kept checking on Adrian, but when her turn came, she became preoccupied with purchasing the water, and at the same time, a stampede broke out in the fair. People were dispersing everywhere, desperately trying to save their lives as several hooligans attacked random shops.
Erin turned around immediately when she heard people screaming and couldn’t see Adrian. She made her way through the crowd to the bench, but Adrian wasn’t there. “Adrian!… Adrian!” she shouted as she looked around. However, there was no point. The noise drowned out her screams. Erin panicked and looked around, but she couldn’t see Adrian. She hid behind the bench as she noticed the hooligans approaching her.
When they passed, she searched the entire fair for Adrian but couldn’t find him. Sobbing uncontrollably, she immediately called the police and notified them of the situation at the fair and that a child – her son – was missing. Police officers responded quickly and dealt with the situation, but Adrian was not found.Erin did everything she could to find him in the days that followed.
Newspaper advertising, pamphlets, everything, yet Adrian was never found. After a few months of trying to locate him, even the police closed the case. Several years went by. Erin lived in the same house for 57 years, hoping her son would return one day. Even after five decades, she hadn’t given up hope.
But the Erin that everyone in her neighborhood remembered as a cheerful, merry woman was suddenly a desolate woman, her face carved with lines and her eyes covered in large dark circles. She led a solitary existence. Her daily routine included walking throughout the neighborhood, re-sticking Adrian’s posters that had fallen off or been removed from the wall. In the evening, she’d make herself a cup of tea and watch TV.
Erin was watching a variety show with a comedian as the main guest one evening about 5 p.m. As the announcer invited the comic on stage, Erin took a calm sip of her tea. Her teacup slid from her fingers and fell on the floor as she glanced at the comedian’s face, and her eyes welled up.
As the camera focused on the comedian’s face, she massaged her eyes repeatedly and pinched herself. His dark eyes, smile, and scar on his face were identical to Adrian’s. “…This can’t be real,” she said quietly, fighting back tears. “Adrian here! He’s GOT to be Adrian! “She sobbed. As she covered her lips with her palms, tears flowed down her cheeks.
The comic was introduced as Henry Bruce, but Erin immediately recognized him as Adrian. A mother’s heart will always recognize her child. Besides, Henry looked exactly like Pete! Erin quickly dialed the TV station’s number that showed at the bottom of the screen. Meanwhile, Henry had begun his act. Erin noticed something strange while he was speaking into the microphone. Henry tried but failed to chuckle.
Indeed, his smile was crooked, and his cheeks drooped. She cried, “He’s having a stroke!” “Pick up the phone!” she yelled to her recipient, understanding Henry needed aid right then. The play was cut short when Henry slumped unexpectedly. Fortunately, Erin’s call had been answered by then. “Take him to the hospital as soon as possible! He’s suffering from a stroke… I was watching your program.
I work as a nurse. When your chief visitor is admitted, please text me the hospital information. “He — ” she gathered her confidence before declaring, “He is my son!” Please take care of him till I arrive! “She yelled without pausing. “What? Oh, fine, ma’am! “The man on the other end of the call responded. He grabbed Erin’s phone number and informed her of Henry’s relocation to the hospital.
Erin hurriedly caught a bus after learning the address, but the hospital was far away and she couldn’t get there until 8 p.m. She ran inside Henry’s room and spotted him unconscious through the circular glass in the door as she arrived. She was ready to walk in when Henry’s boss stopped her and asked for her ID.
Fortunately, the man who had answered Erin’s call earlier was present, and she was permitted to visit Henry for five minutes when he explained how she had informed them of Henry’s condition. Erin thanked them as she entered Henry’s room and sat by his bedside, grasping his hands and remembering their relationship.
“Adrian, you’ll be OK soon,” she said quietly, her tears welling up. “I’ve arrived. I will never abandon you.” Henry didn’t wake up that day, so she came back the next day, and this time his eyes opened and he looked around. He attempted to speak aloud, “Mo – moth – mother…” “Please go slowly…
Do you feel better now?” The doctor who was accompanying Erin inquired. “For a while, you’ll have difficulty speaking. But might you say something for us?” Henry attempted but failed. The doctor promptly checked him and stated, “He’ll be well in a few days, but his speech will need therapy to get back to normal. Surprisingly, he spoke “mother” as his first word. He has to adore you! Please let him rest now.”
“I’ll be right there, Adrian,” Erin said as she stood up to depart. “I’ll be back shortly…” But as she was walking away, he started crying and grabbed her hand. “Would you like to say something?” said the doctor. Henry nodded, tears welling up in his eyes, so the doctor handed him a sheet of paper on which he scribbled a message.
“Why did you address me as Adrian? I recall hearing the name as a child!” As she read the note, Erin fell into tears. “Adrian, you are! I was correct! Do you remember when you were four years old and I lost you? I couldn’t find you no matter how hard I looked! Adrian, you are my son!” He nodded tearfully and scrawled another message.
He claimed in the message that his parents told him he was adopted many years ago. He only remembered his name after they adopted him from the side of the road. They claimed he was chasing a balloon seller and would have been hit by a car if they hadn’t intervened. He was too young to remember much, but he remembered his name.
He also stated that he attempted to discover more about his childhood but was unsure where to begin. He tried for a while, then gave up when nothing happened. Finally, he stated that he had lost his adoptive parents two years prior. Erin was overcome with emotion. “I shall be always grateful to them for the beautiful way they raised you. I’m delighted to have you back! I’m overjoyed!” Erin paid Henry/Adrian daily visits from that day forward till he was discharged.
Erin moved in with him after he was released. Adrian, now a grandfather and a widower after the deat=h of his wife to cancer, introduced Erin to his family, including his only daughter, who was married and lived overseas with her husband, and Erin was enthusiastically welcomed. She was sorry for having missed so many years of her son’s life, but she was glad to see him again. Adrian was asked back to the same show once, and this time he shared the story of how he was reunited with his mother. The entire audience was in tears.
