Have you ever fantasized about owning your own island? A majority of the population has, at one point in their lives, thought about how nice it would be to own a luxurious island all to themselves. It is a symbol of affluence when a person says they own an island because only the extremely rich can afford to own an entire landform!
Well, that is not the case when it comes to this particular island located along the Saint Lawrence River which is situated between New York and Ontario, Canada. Just Room Enough Island is the world’s smallest inhabited island and it is owned by the Sizeland family It is part of the Thousand Islands archipelago where islands of all sizes can be found in its group.
There are certain requirements that must be met in order for a piece of land to be designated as an island. The land mass must be larger than one square foot, must be above water all year, and must support at least one tree. To meet the specifications, the Sizelands made an effort to bring a tree onto the island and establish a front lawn so that their home on the water could be considered an island.
This modest 3,300 sq ft of water-based land is only big enough for a house and a tree. The Sizeland’s home was supposed to be a cozy little space for the family, but since the island was named the smallest island in the world, it has become a tourist attraction. They no longer have their private island to themselves, so the search for the ideal getaway location continues.
