David Bennett, a Florida airline pilot, certainly spends a lot of time travelling through airports owing to his profession. David saw a familiar face among the rushed travelers rushing through the atrium during a recent stopover in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Mark Lowry, a Christian musician and former member of The Gaither Vocal Band, is best known for co-writing the gospel hymn “Mary Did You Know.” Mark has shared the stage with musical legends like as Reba McEntire, Clay Aiken, Kenny Rogers, and Wynonna Judd during the course of his forty-year career. As soon as David saw him, he knew he had to add his name to the list as well.
David approached Mark with a simple request: would Mark sit and listen to David play the airport piano? Mark started to record as he sat down next to David at the piano, seeing a chance to connect with a fan both in person and online.
Mark’s eyebrows shot up in astonishment the moment the pilot started to play. Perhaps he expected the pilot to know how to play, but he didn’t expect him to be this good! David started to play “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” a hymn with Bible-inspired lyrics. David’s fingers glide expertly over the ivory keys as he adds a “little bit of swing” to the tune, dazzling Mark with each note. David certainly has a secret ability that he is eager to show off.
Mark performs the song with David’s assistance, and during the performance, Mark can’t stop complimenting his new companion. Finally, he had to inquire whether David has ever performed professionally before, and the pilot discloses that he used to be a member of Sounds of Liberty, a barbershop acapella group located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That clarifies a lot!
Mark later shared the video on social media with the remark, “I was landing at Lynchburg Airport when a pilot, David Bennett, asked if I wanted to hear him play the piano.” Naturally, I did. He sat down at the airport lobby piano, and this is what occurred…”
The video was an immediate success online, amassing thousands of views and fast becoming viral. We’re certain that this video is only getting started, and that it will take this modest pilot “soaring” into the viral stratosphere.
