Travis Nunes and Ashlee Rhodes raised their two children, Bradlee and Easton Nunes, in Lincoln, California. Rhodes was a full-time mother and business owner who was known for her infectious smile, kindness, and sensitivity. Rhodes and Travis worked diligently to ensure that their children received the best of everything. They were often seen with their children, but no one could have imagined that a tragic event would soon change their lives forever.
On September 26, 2022, Rhodes and Travis took their children to a pumpkin patch to celebrate Bradlee’s birthday. They took a few photos together over there, not thinking it was their final few moments as a family. Travis and Bradlee went bowling with Rhodes and Easton after spending a few hours together. Rhodes had planned to stop for dinner on her way back so the four of them could dine together at the dining table, but fate had other plans.
Travis was worried three hours after leaving the pumpkin patch because his wife and children had not returned home. He had no clue Rhodes and Easton had been killed in a vehicle accident only a few miles away. Travis got into his vehicle and traveled the route his wife would have gone home. His heart skipped a beat as he saw officers at an accident scene on Lincoln Boulevard.
When Travis went closer and talked with a policeman, he discovered why his wife and kid hadn’t returned home. At a railroad crossing between Lincoln Boulevard and Ferrari Ranch Road, a train crashed with their automobile. “I’m sorry to tell you that she passed away,” one officer told Travis. The heartbroken husband hurried to the UC Davis Trauma Center after learning that the emergency responders had transported Easton there.
Little Easton was in critical condition at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Travis was told that his child had two shattered femurs and serious lung damage but would recover. Travis said that he, like his mother, is a fighter. While Travis was devastated by his wife’s death, he had to remain hopeful for his son’s recovery. Travis has been at Easton’s side since he was admitted to the hospital.
On September 29, Travis notified his child about Rhodes’ death. Easton’s father said Rhodes was his closest buddy, which irritated him. Travis spoke out, his eyes welling up and his lips quivering. Travis returned home to inform his little daughter about his mother’s death after informing Easton. The father had not expected having such a tough conversation with his young children.
Meanwhile, Travis’s family assisted him by setting up a GoFundMe fundraising page. Bryan Nunes, the organizer, requested money to help with funeral and hospital costs. He remarked that although Ashlee’s passing has left a huge vacuum in so many of them that words cannot convey, she has also left them with numerous memories. Bryan stated, “As one would guess, the families have been on an emotional rollercoaster trying to make sense of this dreadful and heartbreaking loss.”
He had planned to raise $150,000, and as of October 3, he was almost there. After seeing Easton’s remarkable recovery a few days after the accident, medical professionals decided to discharge him from the Intensive Care Unit. Travis felt better knowing his kid was getting well, but he missed his wife dearly. He remarked that he would be as powerful as Ashlee wants him to be.
On October 2, Easton was allowed to come home in his wheelchair, but he still couldn’t stand on his own. However, doctors were optimistic that the young kid would recover fast. Meanwhile, authorities investigated the event and confirmed that the railroad crossing gates were in working order. Travis, on the other hand, promised to “look into this” and press for answers. He went on to say that she is priceless. It’s a wonder his kid is still alive.
Travis used his Facebook page to share his feelings by posting a meaningful letter. He stated what his wife wished after thanking everyone for their unflinching support throughout his toughest days. Travis held Rhodes accountable for his son’s survival. He believed she “sacrificed herself” by being involved in the tragic tragedy with Easton and preserving her baby’s life. We extend our sincere condolences to the Nunes family at this difficult time. We pray for her soul to rest in peace and for the family to have the strength to cope with this sad loss.
