Giving birth is an incredible event for any woman, but Rebecca Roberts’ pregnancy is one of just 14 of its sort in documented medical history. Having twins is unusual, but this tale has a “ultrarare twist.” Rebecca, 39, and her husband, Rhys Weaver, had been trying for years to have their first child together. Concerned that she may be unable to conceive due to her advanced age, the couple sought treatment at a reproductive clinic in Bath, England…
Rebecca was placed on a medication to aid her ovulation, and after completing her first cycle in February 2020, their dream was granted when they discovered Rebecca was pregnant. Rebecca had her first two scans at seven and ten weeks, and physicians only spotted one baby each times. Her physicians found something unexpected during her 12-week scan—a second baby!
“It was startling to be informed there were two infants instead of one,” she said on Good Morning America. “Then they informed me about the three-week size discrepancy between the two infants, which the doctors couldn’t explain.” Rebecca’s doctor, David Walker, an OBGYN at Royal United Hospital in Bath, said her circumstance was so unusual that the number of times it had happened was unknown.
Rebecca’s pregnancy was eventually classified as superfetation, which occurs when a second, fresh pregnancy occurs during a first pregnancy. Her twins are unusual and are referred to as “super twins” since her eggs were discharged and fertilized at various periods. “My first thought was how had I missed the second twin,” Dr. Walker said. “And after that, I was little comforted that it wasn’t my fault, but rather a very amazing pregnancy.”
In Rebecca’s instance, Noah, her elder twin, was three weeks older than Rosalie, her younger twin. This is thought to be one of the largest age differences among known superfetation twins. Rebecca discovered all of this without Rhys at her side. Due to COVID-19 rules, he was not permitted to accompany her inside for appointments. “I was so stunned that I didn’t feel genuine. “It’s a good thing I was lying on the sofa or I’d have passed out on the floor,” she told CBS News.
“I felt really fortunate, but also quite surprised.” The couple attempted to find any information regarding superfetation on the internet, but there is nothing available. Rebecca, on the other hand, thinks they are the 14th example of super twins in the world. The most difficult aspect of her pregnancy was when physicians told her that her younger twin may not survive. Rosalie, on the other hand, was a warrior, and she emerged alive and well with her brother Noah!
Rosalie had stopped developing due to an issue with her umbilical chord, so doctors had to induce birth when Rebecca was 33 weeks pregnant. Rebecca gave birth twins Noah, who weighed 4 pounds, 10 ounces, and Rosalie, who weighed just 2 pounds, 7 ounces, on September 17. Rosalie spent the next 95 days in the NICU, while her brother was in a separate NICU for little over three weeks.
Rosalie returned home right before Christmas, reuniting the family. Rebecca described her children as “super twins.” “I look at them every day and say, ‘Wow, I’m really blessed.'”
Rebecca said that she already sees a great link between Noah and Rosalie, who is catching up in size to her brother. “It’s like they immediately know when we put them down next to one other, and they reach out and touch each other’s faces, and it’s just the most wonderful thing,” she added.
“Twins have an incredible link in and of themselves, but when these two are old enough to find out, they’ll feel even more unique.” Rebecca has been documenting her pregnant experience, as well as her life as a parent of super twins, on Instagram. She believes that through telling her tale, others will realize that “everything is possible.” “It wasn’t intended to happen this way, but it did. “The female physique is incredible,” she stated. Rebecca’s pregnancy experience can only be characterized as a lovely miracle!
