Raccoon attacks are quite uncommon since they are wild animals. Raccoons will usually escape if they come into contact with people. They are, nevertheless, totally capable of attacking people in order to protect themselves if they feel threatened. This is precisely what happened to Charlotte Ponce when she was a newborn and was attacked by a raccoon!
Charlotte made international news when a pet raccoon took off part of her face. The wild animal assaulted her in her cot when she was just three months old. Charlotte’s nose, right ear, and half of her lips were nibbled by the raccoon, who became hostile. This episode began when infant Charlotte was left alone in her house by her then-18-year-old mother and 23-year-old father. The raccoon was said to have escaped from its prison through an open door and made its way to her cot.
Charlotte and her elder brother, Marshall, who was 15 months old at the time, were eventually given to their great-aunt and uncle, Sharon and Tim Ponce. Sharon and Tim adopted the children after seeing the assault on television. “The raccoon ate the right half of her face all the way back to the ear,” Sharon Ponce, 54, added.
Her right side is completely scarred, and she underwent three operations about two years ago to remove part of it.” Charlotte had to undergo 10 reconstructive surgery after the assault scarred her face, including one to manufacture an artificial ear. Charlotte’s face may finally be restored thanks to $10,000 in contributions from her pals. The plastic surgeon at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak who will do the surgery plans to make a new nose, right ear, and repair her top lip.
Tim kissed Charlotte goodbye as she was carried away to the operating room. “I encountered Dr. Chaiyasate online, and we just knew he had previously treated Charlotte. “He adores Charlotte as if she were his own daughter,” Sharon said. “I recall him sitting down and asking Charlotte if she wanted a new nose and ear because he could provide them to her.” “We are very moved since no one has ever asked her before,” Sharon said.
Dr. Chaiyasate implanted ear tissues under her arm’s skin. The tissues will subsequently develop into a whole ear before being implanted on the right side of her face as an ear. Charlotte is a joyful and hopeful little child after years of operations. She enjoys playing with her pals and doing activities that her peers do. Her favorite hobby is collecting earrings. She said that she had numerous sets of earrings that she would love to wear once she got a new ear.
Her dream is finally coming true. We are overjoyed for Charlotte since she is finally getting her looks and is allowed to wear her earrings after so many years. What a strong kid! Furthermore, although having wild animals as pets is becoming more widespread, we would like to caution you that they may still be hostile at times.
If you are contemplating adopting a wild animal as a domestic pet, please be sure that all safety procedures have been done. If you are inspired by Charlotte’s courage and want to raise public awareness regarding wild animal assaults on people, please share her story with your friends and family.
