I saved nothing. Years Later, a Recently Orphaned Teen in Subway Proposes to My Daughter

An orphaned, destitute youngster was the ray of sunshine at the darkest hour of my life, and I spared him from a life of misery. He proposed to my daughter some years later, and I was shocked. Every parent’s biggest nightmare is losing a kid in front of their eyes. I was at the metro station one day, holding my daughter Sally’s beautiful hand. The swarm pushed me forward as the train approached, and I almost collapsed.

The subway door then closed, and I relaxed. “That was insane! Hey, honey, how are you?” I said. It was then that I realized Sally had gone AWOL. I shoved the train people aside, but Sally was nowhere to be seen. I was sobbing and yelling her name. “Where have you gone, Sally?” In tears, I questioned myself. I gripped my head and sobbed. Soon after, I heard a soft voice inquire, “Are you all right?”

I turned around to find a youngster in tatters. He seemed to be no more than 15 years old, with loving eyes. “I’m searching for my daughter!” I said. “I misplaced her!” The adolescent grinned. “Does she go by Sally?” he inquired. “It certainly is!” I sobbed. “Have you seen her? How did you learn her name?” “Come with me,” urged the adolescent. He brought me to a seat where I recognized Sally. She was munching a sandwich and swinging her feet. “Sally, my darling!” I encircled her with my arms. “Oh, thank God you’re okay.”

She laughed. “Jordan assisted me, Dad. We became separated at the gate, and Jordan assisted me in getting on the train. He also shared his meal with me… This seemed to be all he had to eat, but he offered it to me.” I can’t express how grateful I am to Jordan. Losing Sally was the lowest period in my life, and Jordan was a ray of brightness. He literally saved my daughter’s life!

“Would you mind telling me what you do?” I inquired about him. “You seem to be rather young.” “I’m homeless and orphaned,” he added, his expression mournful. “I was living with my aunt until she evicted me. I’m delighted to get out of there since she’d turned my life into a living nightmare! I have to beg for a livelihood, but I am happy now. Believe me. Being poor and orphaned does not hurt as much as living a wretched life “I felt sorry for him after he ended. Jordan was a decent young man.

It was clear in his eyes. I had to assist him, so I drove him home. He was also quite diligent and would help us with home repairs. I often offered him money for the job, but he always refused. He soon informed us that he had found work and had relocated. He spent two years with us. When I was alone, I worried whether he was all right. “Jordan, where are you right now? Are you content?” Looking up at the sky, I used to wonder. I wish I hadn’t asked that ten years ago.

“Hello, Dad! He’s on his way “Sally, my daughter, informed me. For supper, my wife and I had invited her boyfriend. Sally had requested that we meet him. Sally hurried to the door as the doorbell rang. “He’s here!” she said. My wife and I both burst out laughing. “Is anybody going to believe she’s 22? She’s still a young lady, “I laughed. “Daughters never mature for the sake of their dads. And here we have the world’s most powerful father-daughter duo “My wife continued, and I chuckled.

My joy vanished as soon as Sally brought her boyfriend inside. Jordan turned out to be her boyfriend! Jordan, who had been homeless for a number of years. How could Sally do anything like that? “Don’t you remember Jordan? He’s my partner. We spoke through the internet “And I lost it, Sally remarked. “Sally, you can’t be serious! Do you want to marry someone who used to be a homeless person? That is not going to happen, “I just blurted it out. “Honey!” said my wife.

“That’s impolite. At the very least, give him a seat.” “This cannot be approved, Marla! I can’t!” I stated. What parent would gladly relinquish custody of his daughter to a guy who was previously destitute and came from a damaged family? I didn’t want Sally to be a part of something that was broken. She was my only child, and I simply wanted the best for her. “I’m sorry, Sally,” I said. “Tell him to go immediately! This does not sit well with me!”

“Sir, I…” Jordan had just began to speak when I cut him off. “I’m talking to my daughter! Who gives you the authority to intervene?” I yelled at him. Jordan made no more comment.
Sally was holding my hands. “I simply have one thing to say to you, Dad. Please pay attention to this one item. I guarantee you won’t be sorry. Please?” “Don’t…” “And just promise me you won’t interrupt me before I’m through dad,” Sally begged.

I finally gave up. “All right,” I said. “Dad, Jordan didn’t simply hand me lunch that day,” Sally said. “He also assisted you, Dad. How could you forget?” I saw where she was headed. “I kissed him on the face and held him that day when he helped me,” she added. “When I didn’t see you, I was afraid. I didn’t mind whether he was homeless or not. And I don’t care about it any more! Jordan was the only one who could aid us at the moment.

He offered me his lunch, despite the fact that it was all he had. Imagine how kind he is, Dad! Think about how much he would do for me now that he loves me if he did it for someone he didn’t know.” “I’m not interested in his background, and I’m not interested in his family. Jordan is someone I know. I adore him. And I’m grateful to him for all he’s done for us. He’s the one I choose, and he’ll always have a particular place in my heart. But we won’t do anything until you and Mom agree.

Jordan didn’t want to propose to me until both you and Mom were happy with our relationship.” Something within me altered when Sally said that. I recalled Jordan from our past as I stared at him. He was there…the man who had rescued my Sally. Maybe Sally wouldn’t have been with me if he hadn’t helped her. I took a step forward and embraced him, putting his history behind us. “I’m sorry, Jordan,” I apologized. “I was mistaken. I apologize.”

He returned my embrace and sobbed. Jordan was sobbing for the first time. “Can I ask you a question?” he wept. “Proceed with caution. You are now a member of this family “”I told him.” “Thank you,” he said quietly. “I’d never felt so loved before. Is it all OK if I call you Dad? “He said. “Of sure,” I said, holding him tight.
