In Northern Ireland, an unusual incident occurred when a mother began crying after the store staff gave her young daughter a gift voucher. Caitlin Foster lived in Northern Ireland with her daughter Lacey. The mother and daughter paid a visit to Foster’s grandmother and spent some time with her. The granny gave little Lacey $11 before they left her house.
Foster’s grandmother drove Lacey to Smyths Toys in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, so the little girl could spend the $11 she had received. Foster had no idea that something unexpected would bring her to tears just a few minutes later. The colorful aisles of the toy store made Foster’s daughter smile as she and her daughter entered. She probably wanted to buy all the pretty dolls and pink-colored toys that caught her eye, but Foster kept telling her that she couldn’t spend more than $11.
Whenever Lacey chose something, Foster would return it after double-checking the price because it was out of their budget. She felt bad asking her little girl to buy something else, but she wanted Lacey to use only the money her grandmother had given her. Three staff members approached Foster while Lacey was trying to choose a toy that was within her budget.
The mother had no idea what was about to happen. Foster assumed one of the three employees was the store manager, but she couldn’t figure out why they wanted to speak with her until she noticed a voucher in their hands. Everyone in the aisle became emotional as they reflected on the random act of kindness.
One of the employees handed Foster the voucher, explaining that a lady had left it at the store earlier that day and asked them to give it to a preschool child. Foster burst into tears when she realized why the generous woman wanted to give her the voucher. Although the staff members did not know the woman’s name, they knew why she had left the $56 voucher. According to Foster, the woman did it to remember her late daughter, who would have turned four on September 15, 2022. Foster admitted:
“I just started crying, and the workers started crying as well.” Everyone in the aisle became emotional as they reflected on the random act of kindness. The unknown lady had no idea that her small gesture would touch the hearts of the store’s employees and Foster. Foster posted a photo of the lady’s note inside the voucher on her Facebook profile, hoping it would reach the woman. The note stated:
“In loving memory of our daughter Juno, who turned four today, September 15th. “And all I can say is, if Juno’s mother is reading this, I just want to thank you so much,” Foster said. She wanted to tell the lady that her thoughtful gesture had made Lacey’s day. Foster described the woman’s actions as inspirational, and she expressed a desire to meet her and meet her family.
Meanwhile, Lacey was able to use the gift card to purchase the toys her mother had asked her to replace on the shelves. While Foster was moved by the unknown woman’s gesture, it also left the netizens heartbroken, and they expressed their sorrow by commenting on Belfast Live’s Facebook post. Some of their messages are as follows: “Reading this makes my heart hurt. Thinking of Juno’s parents, who would have been preparing her for school.”
