That first day of school is a little scary for most kids, and maybe a little exciting for some, but not knowing what will happen and what’s in store for you on that first day can be enough to freak out any kid, even the most confident ones! Getting to school has its own set of challenges, especially if they are taking public transportation, which is a huge issue for one little 11-year-old boy who had a disastrous first day at a high school.
Another 15-year-old boy, Tom O’Brien, was on his way home from Holy Family Catholic School in Liverpool, England, after his first day back. He was asking other younger boys on the same bus how their first day of school at their new school went. Alex Furlong, a boy, had had a nervous but exciting first day at Holy Family School. Tom was a thoughtful boy who remembered how that first day felt and wanted to ensure that the younger boys were all okay about their first day, what a nice boy!
Tom was with two of his friends as well, and when they noticed an 11-year-old boy crying at the back of the bus, Tom went to find out what was wrong. He explained that he had gotten on the wrong bus and was now on his way away from home with no idea how he was going to get home. Tom and his friends knew they had to help the boy, so they got off the bus with him at the next stop and called him a cab, even offering to pay for his ride home!
According to the local newspaper, the cab driver did not charge the boy and instead returned the money to Tom at school, making him yet another great guy! “A little faith in humanity restored today” Alex was overjoyed and excited about his day; the older boy Tom was his hero; he had only just met him, but the older boy had already made an impression on him. His mother was so impressed with Tom and his friends that she immediately posted about it on Facebook!
