A cafeteria lunch lady noticed a dwarf boy struggling at lunch and knew exactly what to do. Enedelia Mottram, an 18-year cafeteria lunch lady, went straight to her husband, a metal fabricator, to create a mobile cart. They both knew they could do something to help Julian not only get his lunch, but also get around the school more easily. Julian is not your typical first-grader. He likes Super Mario and Taekwondo and he attends a school that isn’t built for his size because has dwarfism.
Despite the challenges of being a small person, this kiddo appears to be enjoying all that life has to offer. And he did face some difficulties on his first day of school. His mother had gone to school to make sure Julian had everything he needed, but she had forgotten to check the lunchroom. Julian couldn’t reach the food, nor could he carry it or get up on the benches to eat his lunch. The cafeteria could have been designed for giants. Enedelia, on the other hand, noticed and knew her husband could assist.
She told her husband James about Julian’s difficulties that night. James then set about designing a cart with flames, a personalized license plate, and a built-in step stool for Julian to use when he needs to reach for something. “They took the time to get those license plates with his name, which is just like, they just really put a lot of heart into it. The term “responsibility” refers to the act of determining whether or not a person is responsible for his or her own actions. “It’s just the cutest thing,” Heather said. Heather now wants the world to know how one person can change the world because of the lunch lady’s thoughtfulness. “There are wonderful people in this world who, you know, have their eyes open.
They see needs that must be met and take action to meet them. So I’m hoping that other kids’ needs will be met as a result of this,” she said.
