Brett and Kristy Dolenc purchased a small farm for $18,000 and transformed it into their dream home nineteen years ago. Their “farmette” has been transformed into a modern-day masterpiece complete with a pond and a lovely garden. In addition, the family looks after goats, chickens, and rabbits. However, the Dolenc family is expanding, and they realized a few years ago that they needed more space for their three teenagers…
Instead of expanding Kicsi Casa, the family decided to purchase a tiny house and use it to extend their home on the small farm. Because they are less expensive to buy and maintain, tiny houses are becoming increasingly popular in the United States. Environmentally conscious homeowners prefer them because they have a smaller environmental footprint. Tiny houses are also being built in many states to help the homeless. Many tiny houses are built by homeowners after watching popular shows like “Tiny House Hunters” or “Tiny House Nation.”

People interested in tiny homes can also purchase tiny-house-building kits or access the internet for information and other tips on styles and house plans. In the case of the Dolencs, they determined that an additional tiny house would be the best way to expand their small farm. They then worked with Simblissity Tiny Homes to design their tiny house. The total cost of the tiny house was $67,000.
Brett and Kristy decided to build the tiny house so that their children could have privacy while still remaining close to the family on their small farm. However, the tiny house can be converted into other uses in the future, such as a guest bedroom, an office, or even a mobile home for the children. Meanwhile, because the tiny house was intended to house their three teenagers, the Dolencs asked their daughters, Lucie and Marin, to make the final design decisions and customize their tiny home to their personalities.

It took six months to complete the project, and the tiny house is now a welcome addition to their small farm. It is easily accessible from the main house and has far exceeded the family’s expectations. Brett and Kristy are also proud of their daughters, who designed their rooms to highlight their unique characteristics and needs. The tiny house, which is nestled comfortably on their small farm, has a composting toilet as well as a good-sized shower, vanity, and sink.
Storage space was a major issue, as it is in most tiny homes. Thus, closets were built into the available space under the stairs. Lucie opted for a loft bed. Despite the fact that she doesn’t have much room to sit up, she chose this design because it felt cozy. She also likes the layout of her storage area, which doubles as a desk when she needs to study. Marin, on the other hand, chose a room on the ground floor.

This allows her to see the goats and the vastness of the family’s small farm. The kids have a hangout loft above her bedroom where they can read books and relax. There are two sofa cushions that can be converted into beds. When friends come to visit, they can sleep on the sofa cushions. Brett joked that the children had threatened to never leave their small farm because of the comforting features of the tiny house.

It’s easy to see why the children consider the small farm to be their forever home. “Raising kids out here, you know they have chores and animals,” Kristy explained. As a result, we made the decision as a family. This is our way of life. We share responsibilities, assist one another, and do things together.” During the pandemic, the Dolenc family welcomed their neighbors to their small farm. Friends and neighbors could stay on the farm-ette and interact with the farm animals while receiving “COVID relief goat therapy.”

The small farm, with its beautiful and lush trees and pond, as well as its relaxing ambiance, was an incredible escape from stress and anxiety. With a wonderful new addition to the small farm, the Dolencs’ homestead will be an even more fun and relaxing destination for their family and friends. See their lovely home in the video below:
