Many people are terrified of flying. Takeoff, landing, or simply being 30,000 feet in the air can be terrifying. The passengers on a recent flight were not the only ones who felt apprehensive and uneasy. Three people’s lives were in the hands of a pilot with little experience in the cockpit. A teenager who had recently obtained his pilot’s license was thrust into a terrifying situation. According to People, Brock Peters, 18, was flying in California when he heard something terrible. “I heard the engine start and thought, ‘I don’t have any power.’
My RPMs are decreasing, “Brock informed CBSLA. To make matters worse, there were three other people on the plane with Brock at the time: his grandmother and two cousins. He was taking them to breakfast by plane. “I was a little stressed out because, you know, you train for this a lot but until it actually happens, it’s just a whole different story,” Brock told the Los Angeles-based television station. Brock admits to being concerned about the situation. He told the station that his grandmother was in tears throughout the ordeal.
However, he stated that he needed to block that out in order to act. When forced to make a quick decision, Brock realized his only option was to land the single-engine plane on the side of a highway. He claimed to have remembered his training and acted on it. Brock miraculously managed to land the plane near the road safely. During an interview with CBSLA, Brock stated that he knows who else helped with the landing. “I’m just relieved that it ended the way it did. God helped me get through it because there were some things like, I was coming down and there were power lines that crossed the road, “Brock stated.
“I didn’t see those until after I got out and checked everything out when I was coming down.” The situation, which seemed to Brock and his three passengers to last a lifetime, happened in a matter of minutes. Brock stated that it took only 5 minutes from the time the engine failed to land on the ground.
