She buys $80 outdated dining room set from yard sale and turns it into the modrn set of her dreams

You can help the environment by lowering your carbon footprint by purchasing used items rather than new. It is also one method of saving money. While the initial expenditure may be significant – including adequate equipment and materials – once you have them, you will be able to refurbish many more pieces of furniture at a lower cost.

Consider completing a whole house renovation for a fraction of the cost of buying items in furniture stores. Maggie McGaugh’s TikTok account features her DIY furniture refurbishment. She enjoys making something new out of something old, such as furniture she found at thrift stores or snatched from a curb (literally garbage!). She planned to use this furniture in her rental properties or sell it online.

Her newly restored dining set was shown in one of her TikTok videos. Maggie explained how she refinished an $80 dining set she found at a yard sale. The table didn’t appear to be in bad shape, but the chairs did. She had ideal dining set in mind, but it would set her back about $3,000, so she chose to repair this one instead.

The majority of her time was spent sanding. Instead of the polished table, she chose to send this one to bring out the natural color of the wood. She then refurbished the chairs, beginning by sanding the wood. She also sanded the cane with 120 grits, dusted it with an old paintbrush, painted it black, and coated it with polyacrylic. She also painted and treated the table’s sides and legs in this manner.

She then covered the chair’s cushions. Most individuals would remove the original coverings while reupholstering cushions, especially if the foam was in poor shape. Maggie, on the other hand, refused. Instead, she vacuumed and cleaned the existing couches before covering them in black. It looked far superior to the original finish. Maggie improved its appearance by adding a matte touch to the paint job. She stated she’d put it in her house rental.
