Mom Delivers Baby with Huge Life-Threatening Tongue — Over a Year Later, Tot Finally Smiles

Paisley Morrison-Johnson was born with an adult-sized tongue. Doctors were concerned that her tongue would suffocate her. Paisley received the medical attention she required six months after birth and is now able to live a normal life. Paisley’s mother, Madison Kienow, stated that she counted her baby girl’s toes, fingers, ears, and eyes during the ultrasound.

Madison, on the other hand, remarked, “Oh cute, she likes sticking her tongue out.” Madison soon gave birth via cesarean section, and doctors realized something was wrong right away. Her tongue was so large that it filled her entire oral cavity. The baby was quickly connected to a ventilator by the doctor to ensure she could breathe.Madison did not get to hold her baby when she was born because she was being stitched up. She recalled the incident:

“It was a really emotional experience because I got to see her, but I was being stitched up, and they just wheeled an omni bed over to me, and there I saw her, you know, just tubes and cords.” Surgeons also told Madison that her baby had the largest tongue they had ever seen, especially for an infant. Multiple doctors and specialists investigated why Paisley had an adult-sized tongue, and they soon discovered the cause.

Paisley’s mother said when she was 16 months old that her daughter had become “one of the most facially expressed babies ever.”Doctors at the Aberdeen, South Dakota, hospital where Madison gave birth didn’t know what caused her baby’s adult-sized tongue. So they flew Paisley to Sioux Falls to see a specialist. Madison met a team of specialists who couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her daughter, and she quickly became discouraged.

Paisley, on the other hand, was diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedman Syndrome, which resulted in her adult-sized tongue. Madison expressed her heartbreak: “I was blaming myself. What did I do wrong during my pregnancy? But there was nothing I could have done about it. It was simply her birthright. Jesus wanted to give me something extra special.”Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes abnormal growth in certain parts of the body.

It is a rare genetic disorder that affects one in every 13700 newborns worldwide. Madison immediately recognized what was wrong with her daughter and began consulting with specialists to see what could be done. Three months later, specialists performed surgery to reduce Paisley’s tongue size. Paisley underwent a second surgery to reduce the size of her tongue even further.

Madison said she’d never forget the surgeon’s satisfied expression as he walked into the recovery room. According to the surgeon: “Wow, that was quite the surgery!”Paisley’s tongue is a muscular organ that can regenerate, which means it could grow to be larger than normal again. Specialists note, however, that the growth disorder generally slows down as children get older. According to them, the majority of children grow up to live healthy lives.

Paisley’s second surgery has currently reduced a significant portion of her tongue and allowed her to close her mouth. How Does the Baby React to the Surgeries?
Madison claimed that her baby’s tongue was constantly protruding before her surgeries. Paisley was always chewing her tongue because it took up so much space on her tongue.”It always looked like she was making silly faces,” Madison added.

Madison couldn’t believe how beautiful her daughter looked after her surgeries. She was taken aback by the drastic change. She revealed that her baby smiled for the first time since Paisley recovered from the surgeries. Madison stated: “Because of the size of her tongue, she couldn’t even make the sounds to say words like’mama’ and ‘dada’ before, so this feels like a huge accomplishment.”

Paisley’s life has improved significantly since the surgery, according to her mother. Her mother no longer had to be concerned about her child choking. Paisley began saying her first words, eating adult foods, her teeth began to grow, and she took her first steps.Paisley’s mother said when she was 16 months old that her daughter had become “one of the most facially expressed babies ever.” Madison went on to say:

“She’s maturing, and she’s full of sass, personality, and love.” She’s simply incredible.”Paisley’s baby would be monitored every three months until she was eight years old, according to doctors. They also stated that by the age of eight, her chances of developing cancerous tumors caused by the syndrome would be drastically reduced.

Her mother, on the other hand, was upbeat, saying Paisley was a determined girl with a lot of fight in her. Do you want more of this? Read about a mother who was told to hide her wrinkled baby by clicking here. Years later, the baby grew into a handsome man.
