Lucy Falconer of Glasgow started school for the first time, and everyone but the girl’s family would have missed it if it hadn’t been for two images. Gillian’s mother, pleased of her daughter, took a lovely snapshot of her before dropping her off at school. When Lucy, 5, got home, she couldn’t stop herself from taking another snap. When her mother inquired about her first day at school, she said, “Oh, nothing special.” However, the mother noticed that her daughter went to bed earlier than normal in the evening. Well, Lucy, welcome to the world – childhood has passed you by, and you are now virtually an adult.

In Scotland, children not only begin attending school at the age of five, but the majority of them begin in mid-August. Summer vacations are brief, and Lucy knows this from personal experience.
