Kelsey Poll and Tyler West, like many engaged couples, went down memory lane before their wedding to gather old images to utilize in their wedding film. But when they opened Kelsey’s baby book, they got the surprise of their lives. A photo of Kelsey, a few minutes infant, being cared for by a nurse was in the baby book. That is not alarming in and of itself…
So here’s the strange part: they both recognized the nurse as Tyler West’s mother, Mary Ann! That’s right: Kelsey’s future mother-in-law attended and even helped with her birth!When Mary Ann West learned of the synchronicity, she nearly couldn’t believe it, she told Good Morning America. “We were shocked,” she said. “I thought, this is meant to be. What are the chances that these two kids will meet, fall in love, marry, and establish their own family?”
Mary Ann recognized she was at Kelsey’s birth after discovering she was there, and she remembered everything, which is saying a lot considering she was a labor and delivery nurse at HCA Healthcare’s Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah for many years. “Her delivery was a little complicated, which is why I remember it from 22 years ago.” She had a problem with her placenta…
It was extremely dangerous because the cord was attached to the baby and then the vessels were just in the amniotic membranes in the bag of water instead of attached to the cord, so it wasn’t protected,” she explained. She also stated that this was the first time in her 29-year nursing career that she had encountered this specific issue with a birth.Mary Ann West also recalls persuading Kelsey’s mother, Stacy Poll, to have three children. Stacy’s third child was Kelsey, and Mary Ann had just given birth to her third, Tyler.
“I had just given birth to my third child a year before and was just telling her, ‘You got this girl.'” It’s all right,'” West stated that she advised Stacy Poll. “‘You can do it.'” It was a terrific experience offering her advice on how to help the older siblings adjust to the new baby.” Little did she realize when she gave that advice that their third offspring would meet and fall in love twenty years later! Tyler and Kelsey met in 2021 at the bank where Kelsey worked.
They talked for a while, and he returned a few days later to ask for her phone number. The rest, as they say, is history. They will marry in May 2023. Kelsey Poll West finds it incredibly meaningful that her mother and mother-in-law shared a unique moment at her birth. “She was able to help my mom during a time when she was really scared, and that means a lot, because my mom means the world to me,” Mary Ann said.
“And just having both of my moms there with me when I was born is something that not everyone gets to say, and that’s something that I’ll be eternally grateful for, that I have that connection with her and that she has that connection with my mom, too.” I adore this serendipity, as well as the Wests’ family tie. Mary Ann West claims she now considers Kelsey’s mother, Stacy Poll, to be her best friend. I have to agree that this is a love that appears to be meant to be!
